Natural disaster, Hurricane Harvey, has filled the heart of Texas with water for almost week and is not quite finished. The state of Texas has been under the duress of a State of Emergency for almost a week now. Hurricane Harvey first touchdown last Friday in the southeast region of Texas (Houston).
Wednesday morning, Harvey made its second landfall touching the borders between Louisiana and Texas causing more havoc for the two devastated states. Mayor of Port Arthur, TX which is about 90 miles east of Houston reported:
“Our whole city is underwater right now but we are coming!” Port Arthur Mayor Derrick Freeman posted on Wednesday morning. “If you called, we are coming. Please get to higher ground if you can, but please try [to] stay out of attics.”
Officials are encouraging patrons to not try to tame this beast on their own and wait for help. At least, as much as they can. “Get to higher ground and wait it out” – they say.
In total, Harvey has dumped 52 inches of rain in parts of Texas which has now beat the US record for rain in a single storm. “The coastal cities of Beaumont and Port Arthur got pummeled with 26 inches of rain in 24 hours — and it’s still raining.” – CNN
Louisiana is now added to the troubled list as Harvey is now threatening to dump an additional 3 to 6 inches of rain from southwestern Louisiana into western Kentucky, the National Hurricane Center said. Flooding is shown to occur in parts of southwest Lousiana and precautions are encouraged now. If you’re close to that area, make arrangements now.
Harvey is expected to fizzle out by Wednesday night, but the rainfall is not expected to end until the end of the week. Prayers for all.
