The President of Basketball Operations and former player of the Los Angeles Lakers, Magic Johnson, has opted to resign Tuesday during a tearful press conference at the Staples Center prior to the team’s season finale.
Magic explained, “I was happier when I wasn’t the president,” Johnson said. “When you gotta make trades, you’re not happy.”
He went on to say, “The fines and the tampering and the this and the that, I can’t help young men who want me to help them, or I can’t tweet out. Like Russell Westbrook, that was a great feat the other day. I couldn’t even tweet it out to say, ‘Hey, congratulations.’ If I had did that, everyone would have said, ‘He’s tampering.’ I don’t like that. I like to be free.”
Jeanie Buss, team owner, will now have to take the reigns on her own and handle what’s next for the Laker team. It will be interesting to see how Lebron and the rest of the team will handle these subtle changes.
