We have been backing Colin Kaepernick in his fight for justice by kneeling during the National Anthem ceremony until he was removed from the San Francisco 49ers. As a result, he has not been picked up this season. In support, many are not even watching the NFL season this year. A boycott for justice.
President-elect, Donald Trump, took it upon himself to relay his message on the topic stating, “Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, “Get that son of a bitch off the field right now. Out. He’s fired. He’s fired!”
Watch the speech here:
Players, owners, and contributors replied back with a unifying message of either kneeling, locking arms or both during this past weekend’s games in response to Trump’s message. It is not against any laws to protest by kneeling/locking arms – freedom of speech is a constitutional right.
The entire Steelers team took direction from the coach, Mike Tomlin, to not even be present during the National Anthem ceremony. They remained in the locker room until the ceremony commenced.
At the Jaguars vs. Ravens game, a record number of players kneeled in response to this issue.
We saw many teams take a stance on this issue and hopefully – the right message will get through. A message NOT just about the American flag, but justice for all. Kaepernick kneeled for police brutality, immigration rights and so much more.
Keep it up, teams.
